Sea, Sunset and A Poem

18 Mar

A delicious lunch at the Gylly Cafe and a brief walk on the beach as although the sun was shining, the sea and the sky glorious shades of blue, the wind was bitterly cold and blowing fine sand around.

The crisp cold air makes lovely sunsets.

I have posted this poem before. As the world news gets harder and harder and we feel the fear and despair of so many around the world, Wendell Berry’s words offer some small comfort.
.
The Peace of Wild Things by Wendell Berry.
.
“When despair for the world grows in me
and I wake in the night at the least sound
in fear of what my life and my children’s lives may be,
I go and lie down where the wood drake
rests in his beauty on the water, and the great heron feeds.
I come into the peace of wild things
who do not tax their lives with forethought
of grief. I come into the presence of still water.
And I feel above me the day-blind stars
waiting with their light. For a time
I rest in the grace of the world, and am free.”

I needed it too and am glad it brought you some solace as it did me. The news is so hard to hear at the moment, finding beautiful things is helping to keep me calm. 🙂

Thank you, Sally. That poem is a wonderful reminder of how the evolution of humankind has erred.
