Mutton Cove, Seals and Sea Weed

30 Oct

Mutton Cove is the place to see seals, at least sixty of them there this afternoon. There are signs along the cliff path where we can walk, asking visitors to whisper so as not to disturb them all.

Mutton Cove

The tide was going out and leaving behind sea-weed. In the gallery are other things which caught my eye this afternoon.

And what a seal colony, below the ragged cliffs. Glad you paid them a visit and shared your photographs of Mutton Cove. A healthy bunch Phocidae .

How interesting it is, the names of coves and islands along coastlines. Sometimes the reasons for the naming obvious others ambiguous -even a brain teaser.

Food for thought, that – the reason for names of places. I looked up Mutton Cove/ Godrevy and discovered that Godrevy means small farms so we wondered if sheep used to graze there? I shall keep trying to find out…. 🙂

I love walking above Mutton Cove.. Went in late March a couple of years ago with a friend from upcountry and counted at least 100 seals which was probably only half the number there at that time. Then we continued along the coastpath toward Hell’s Mouth and watched 3 dolphins swimming along.. Such a treat.. xx

Did you see the video of the dolphins surfing just around the bay on Godrevy Beach last Friday? It was magic! No dolphins yesterday just the seals. xx
