Day 13 – The McGranaghans, A Lobster Roll and Nantucket Sound

13 Oct

Having spent the last two weeks enjoying beautiful countryside all over New England, it was as we arrived at West Harwich, Cape Cod, that we both realised how much we were missing the sea. We walked to the beach from our delightful small hotel, The Platinum Pebble, and met a lovely family with whom we shared some good laughs as they redirected us to find our lunch.

Another walk and we found the lobster shack, Arnie’s, and had a Lobster Roll with fries, sitting looking out over the Atlantic Ocean at Nantucket Sound, listening to the gentle soughing of the waves onto the sand, hearing the gulls, smelling the ozone and enjoying the Autumn sunshine.

Love the photos especially of the horseshoe crabs (did you know they have blue blood – a bit like the Queen!) and of Arnie’s. The place for the best lobster roll on Cape Cod. Glad you enjoyed staying with us and your trip up to Truro!

Thank you for calling in. We did have a wonderful time with you and this afternoon I have finished off the post about your beautiful Inn! Just published!
We had no idea those crabs have blue blood, how strange!
All the best to you both, Sally

I’m new to lobster but had to try it when we first arrived and loved it. At home it’s much too expensive! 🙂

What is that creature you show us near the end of your series?

I’m jumping in an answering because I know the answer! It’s a horseshoe crab. I live really close to the Delaware bay in South Jersey, and they mate along the shore there.

Thank you! We didn’t know. What amazing creatures they seem to be. There were dozens of shells on the beach. 🙂

Exactly – why me and my BFFs took our trip to the Mass. shore this fall! We love our mountains, but once a year we have to breathe ocean air and eat fresh seafood.
