Chimney Pots, Pansy and Mystery Object

01 Jun

1    It’s the 1st of June and there should be no more frosts! I’m planting up my chimney pots to add bits of colour all over the garden.

3    I bought this intriguing little thing many years ago.   It’s a very small brass case, about 1″x1/2″. In it are two tiny double hooks. Any ideas about its use?

For Noeleen who asked what a rhubarb forcer is. As soon as the new rhubarb shoots are seen in the Spring, we put this terracotta ‘chimney’ over it and pop the lid on. The dark makes the rhubarb grow up to the top and it remains thin, sweet and pale pink. Later in the season we let the rhubarb do its own thing and just grow!  See here for a delicious rhubarb pudding!

Love the chimney pots…must be an English thing – never seen them before. Your mystery object, I have, since I’m so old. It’s a test model for the first flash drives.
    Later…

I love the faces on pansies.
I think I could even raise pansies. They seem to grow without any help. 🙂

I love pansies but I’m afraid I don’t seem able to grow them for ever. Mine seem to die all too soon. Perhaps they like more water than I give them! 🙂

I have wracked and stretched my brain and i must confess that I don’t know what it is. The suspense is killing me.

Thank you! I caught it again this morning with the early sun shining through! I shall have to plant it where that can happen again. Thanks for calling in. Hope you are okay… 🙂

Thanks for asking Sally, I have had a few relatively good days in a row, that hasn’t happened since Christmas…it does wonders for you! I hope everything is good with you too xx

I’ve posted up the answer today but I think it’s much more likely that you are right. 🙂
