Potting and Reading

I spent the morning potting up the begonias we bought on Wednesday and the afternoon in the shade, reading. I bought  ‘Once Upon a Raven’s Nest’ by Catrina Davies after hearing the writer talk at the Redruth Book Feast a few weeks ago and today settled down to read it. I was advised by the bookseller from The Edge of the World Bookshop at the event, that when I started it,  I wouldn’t be able to stop and he was right. I agree totally with George Monbiot about this remarkable story.

H, if you didn’t buy it, you can borrow it as soon as Mr S has finished it. 🙂

A Rose, A Word and A Poem

We have brought in one of our roses which was beaten down by yesterday’s wild weather. It smells glorious and looks lovely in a piece of Mum’s green glass.

For all my fellow logophiles, here is a wonderful word that came my way today.

Brian Bilston, a poet whose works I really enjoy, has given me permission to share this one with you today. I love the imagination which took me on a walk through our favourite independent bookshop in Penzance.Thank you, Brian. This is magical.

Bookshop, Penzance and Agapanthus

We went to a bookshop today! We had pre-ordered and didn’t stop to browse but it felt like a milestone. I had really looked forward to strolling around Penzance but it was no fun though I have some photos for you. There were many, many people who were clearly ‘on holiday’ without a care in the world, some having great fun in the inner harbour at high tide which was lovely to see, others filling the pavements which wasn’t!
