Muguet, Feather and Action for Happiness

01 May

The 1st of May in France is a holiday to celebrate labour day, and it also carries an even older tradition. If someone offers you a sprig of lily of the valley, accept graciously, it brings good luck. Our dear friend Kath, for whom this blog is written, always gave us Lily of the Valley on this day. I grow them to honour my lovely friend, lost too soon. Mine are not ready to pick yet but I give you all this photo to bring you good luck in the French tradition.

On our walk last evening, we spotted this beautiful feather.

The calendar for Action for Happiness this month is Meaningful May.

Grateful for the good wishes on May Day–via flowers, no less.

In Germany we call the lily of the valley- May bell- literally translated as theyalways come in May. Thank you for yours in your garden for luck.

Yes, they flower in May but are hardly ever ready to pick for May Day. 🙂

When do lily of the valley flower? I have some which I bought a couple of years ago. The leaves appear (now) but they have never flowered. The feather I think could be from the tail of a magpie. They really do have beautiful colours.

It has taken years for ours to settle in and flower. I put them in 9 or 10 years ago and had leaves for several years, a few flowers last year and this year suddenly, they have spread and there will be lots- and hopefully scent! I thought it might be a magpie feather. 😊

Oh, goodness, we’ll probably have moved before it flowers then!
