On my way along Church Lane,
I spied a feather that was plain
Ly from a pigeon’s wing.
Or maybe it’s from no such thing.
Now, an ornithologist in the know,
Could discern pigeon, Jackdaw or even crow,
A frightened coot or a skittish quail
My guesswork is to no avail
But not an owl, neither a goose,
And certainly not a flying moose.
Perhaps there’s a flamingo on the loose?
Or a oiseau imported from Toulouse.
An Andean Condor, what a sight to see,
Then again a chicken that fell from a tree.
The problem with birds is they fly away
And then there’s nothing left to say ….
