Bee, Raindrops and Longfellow

A lack lustre bee (is it a bee?) came into our kitchen today but after some honey on the window sill, it was able to fly away through the window into the rain.

I love how the Fennel collects raindrops.

Here is an extract from a much longer poem  but these are the lines I memorised as a child. I always thought it was called How Beautiful is the Rain!  Nowadays, it reminds me of being told about our nephews and niece who grew up in Prescott, Arizona and who used to go out and dance in the rain as it was such a rare treat!

 Rain in Summer by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

How beautiful is the rain!
After the dust and heat,
In the broad and fiery street,
In the narrow lane,
How beautiful is the rain!
How it clatters along the roofs,
Like the tramp of hoofs
How it gushes and struggles out
From the throat of the overflowing spout!
Across the window-pane
It pours and pours;
And swift and wide,
With a muddy tide,
Like a river down the gutter roars
The rain, the welcome rain!
