In Hospital, Day 1

30th December. I really was up and walking this morning! Just around the bed first with a walking frame but later into the corridor and back. It was scary but not painful, probably as I was still full of spinal anaesthetic and it felt fabulous, a real confidence builder. The physio came back a few times, each time to teach me a new exercise which I have to master before I can go home. At the moment the exercises feel impossible! However, if I can do something today and start on the crutches I may be allowed home tomorrow evening, Day 2, the evening of my birthday!

Both my catheter and drain have come out today too and that makes moving around a whole heap easier. I have now been shown how to use the crutches and was taken for a walk up the corridor. That was completely exhausting and I have slept/dozed much of the day. As the spinal anaesthetic wore off, I was offered codeine which I refused as it messes with my head and then Tramodol which I took. This turned out to be a mistake as the next morning it made me very sick indeed.

Sorry to read that you will be repeating this on the other side. But knowing what to expect will hopefully make it easier. 🙂
It seems we all have something we react to. I was given morphine for some reason and went into a spin. I saw light at the end of the tunnel and didn’t want to go there. lol

Bit of a bummer really but I won’t be as scared next time and will know the trajectory of recovery! I’ve heard that morphine can give horrid effects, hope I never have to take it and that you won’t need it again either. 🙂
