We thoroughly enjoy watching our resident squirrel who posed for a moment on a post this morning and the lovely Mr S just managed to catch it on camera for me. 
We’ve been doing the RSPB Big Birdwatch this weekend and had ten different birds visiting. Today we could add the wren to the list but it’s too late to be counted.

I do love the early flowers of the tiny Iris Reticulata. This one is called Harmony.

Why is it that the usual birds don’t appear when doing the count? My goldfinches, wren and female blackbird didn’t turn up and if it had been last week I actually had a buzzard land on one of my trees! Not to mention the sparrowhawk by the side of the conservatory. I have noticed a distinct lack of collared doves this year – only had one visit all winter and last year there were always a pair and sometimes up to seven at once. Also no pied wagtails for the first time.

That is such a good question. Most days we have plenty of variety at the feeders but last year NO birds turned up at all, all weekend! This year was much better though the Wren was a little tardy. We haven’t seen any of my favourites, Long Tail Tits, for ages. I love their shape and their colours and the way they live in families but they have moved away. 🙁
Lucky you to get a buzzard. We sometimes see one in the back field but never in the garden – and a sparrowhawk – wow!

Buzzard back today, eating a baby rabbit right next to the conservatory door! Gave us a bit of a fright!
