Silver, Rose and Quirky Decorations

06 Dec

We are still sorting all the stuff from the Welsh dresser which is awaiting auction. This slender little vase that was once my Granny’s had been very neglected and the silver was black. Now it is shiny and beautiful and now contains our last rose, picked today before the next storm, Burra, arrives tomorrow.

I’m researching what the various marks mean.

Rehearsing with the Ingleheart Singers at the Eco park was fun as always. On the way out some of their quirky decorations amused me.

It has the most beautiful old fashioned scent too. 🙂

It is and Nancy has done some detective work on the hallmarks. Read her comments below. 🙂

First mark ~ Cooper Brothers & Sons
    Second mark ~ .925 Silver
    Third mark ~ Sheffield England
    Fourth mark – date mark

Start here with “British Marks” to find the 2nd & 3rd marks (lion & crown)
    https://www.925-1000.com/british_marks.html

then click on Sheffield to find 1st mark

There is a date chart, but I don’t see an exact match for you capital “d” ~ the closest I saw would be 1896

Wonderful! Thank you very much. I’ve been making angels and then Christmas biscuits all day and haven’t even thought about checking up on these. You are a star, Nancy! Wish I could send you some golden Christmas star biscuits. xx

Thanks, Sally. That’s a sweet thought. But I rather enjoyed the detective work this morning, especially since the site I used made it EASY to identify 3 of the 4 marks. The date mark just isn’t an exact enough match for my untrained eyes.

Enjoy your angel and biscuit making!

I know what you mean about the detective work. I did lots of research for the project Until the Day Break in our local churchyard. Discovering stuff is addictive. Thanks again for your , albeit enjoyable, work on my behalf. 🙂
