Mud, Dogs and Another Robin

10 Jan

We have avoided one of our routes up to The Great Flat Lode because there has been such a lot of rain and that makes for a lot of puddle dodging. There has been much less rain recently so we tried that route only to discover that it is a completely impassable quagmire as a tractor has been churning up the mud and the puddles!

We frequently pass this handful of hounds!

Another Robin sang for us on this walk.

I spy gorse, which I love. It’s considered invasive here in the States. Otherwise, I’d plant in in our yard.

Wading through muck, mud, and mire does NOT make for a marvelous walk.

Too right – and sadly we think it may be deliberate. We have walked that path for many years and often meet the farmer and his wife who cares for the horses. During the March -June lockdown we met them a number of times and they were getting fed up with the people using ‘their’ lane. We were noticing many more people on the trail and again in this lockdown. They were very upset about people feeding the horses the wrong food and said they were going to ask the council to shut the lane…..Now it is, effectively, shut. 🙁

We have a favourite walk in out hamlet which we frequently walked but for over a year now it has been impassable due to destructive tractors. Such a nuisance these new oversized tractors1

Tractors make an awful mess of the lanes at this time of year. Fortunately ours are sealed, but there is still a lot of mud on them from the tractor tyres. And the off road tracks are churned up by dog walkers and horse riders! I’m thinking of driving to a nice clean beach, but worried that might not be permissible.

That’s what we would like to do too but we are 10mins from Portreath and not sure, like you, about driving anywhere, even that close. The rules say to stay in your village or town.
      🙁
