Sadly, we cannot see the planetary conjunction of Saturn and Jupiter as we have been beaten by the mizzle as so many full astronomical events are in Cornwall. Nevertheless, I send Solstice Greetings to you all and a picture of the conjunction sent to me by my sister in Hawaii where the volcano, Kilauea, also woke up today. How auspicious!

Here in Arizona, we stepped out our garage door, looked up in the clear cold sky, and immediately saw Saturn and Jupiter hanging out together. Silly me. Didn’t even occur to me to take a picture.

No, the only instrument we had for seeing the planets was a pair of binoculars more fit for birdwatching than skywatching. It’s interesting, though, that the photos I’ve seen posted on the Internet look just like what we saw from our back yard.

I made 3doz mince pies this morning. I have a set of pastry cutters & a special pan from home. I love your lids! No Christmas Star here either, cloudy every night.

Wow! The first photo is amazing. Apparently we should have clear skies on Christmas Eve so look out for the planets then. Be good to know which direction to look in!
