Another Lane, Bird Song and Sewing

02 May

We walked early today and it was absolutely delightful, flower filled lanes and  sunshine and almost silent except for the beautiful bird song.

For a couple of hours this afternoon I sat in the sunshine, pinning and tacking the next six scrub caps. Machine sewing tomorrow and they’ll be almost ready for collection.

Your walk looks so tranquil and lovely to hear the birdsong in your video. Are the NHS so short of supplies people are also now making scrub caps? This is so sad.. I am never sure when I watch the UK news whether lack off PPE is fact or media hype. Stay safe 🙂

It’s sadly true. Bill’s knee surgeon rang last week to check that he is okay given that his knee op is on pretty much permanent hold at the moment. We asked him about the problems with PPE and he said yes and that he goes to work every day in fear of bringing the virus home to his wife and children. The shortage is real. (We were very touched by the way that Mr P should phone Bill, an NHS patient, not private!)
Cornwall Scrubs are sewing as fast as we all can. From our update on May 1st “So far we have donated 139 sets of hand – made scrubs .We have also donated 350 scrubs bags, and over 500 caps!! We have some larger hospital requests and the outstanding care home requests to be fulfilled next but they are all under production to be completed asap.” What a wonderful bunch of volunteers! 🙂

OMG, what has happened to the NHS that they cannot even supply the necessary equipment for their staff. My Portuguese went online and ordered us a medical grade medical visors from a company in Coimbra in Norther Portugal and they arrived in about 10 days. What about all the small manufacturers in the UK who could do with the work right now … it’s a right mucking fuddle to be sure.
Thank goodness for the army of volunteers.
And well done to Bill’s surgeon for keeping him in the loop. I was due to see a surgeon re a knee op (both knees) but that is all on hold as I cancelled the appoitment. As long as I I can hobble around the garden and we can use the wheelchair for big supermarkets I’ll have to wait. HAng in there.

The NHS have been starved of money for years and have been struggling with ordinary circumstances. Lots of small manufacturers have offered their services to make PPE but the govmnt have ignored them. People are very angry about the situation. Some NHS staff are even having to buy their own. It is a tragic tale.
