Wise Words, Special Fabric and Cake

26 Apr

I read this yesterday and it seemed so perfect to me in these strange and unsettling times.

“My grandmother once gave me a tip:
In difficult times, you move forward in small steps.
Do what you have to do, but little by little.
Don’t think about the future, or what may happen tomorrow.
Wash the dishes.
Remove the dust.
Write a letter.
Make a soup.
You see?
You are advancing step by step.
Take a step and stop.
Rest a little.
Praise yourself.
Take another step.
Then another.
You won’t notice, but your steps will grow more and more.
And the time will come when you can think about the future without crying.” ~          Elena Mikhalkova

Cornwall Scrubs delivered some new Seasalt fabric for me yesterday. Seasalt, a Cornish company,  have been amazing in donating metres of beautiful fabric for making bags and scrub caps. Today it has been washed and is drying on the Victorian pulley rack that I inherited from my Mum and tomorrow I can start my next pieces. Our Chocolate Crunch treat is helping us through the days. This is the third trayful I have made since we started self-isolating 8 weeks ago……….

Small steps are imperative now, but I often have to remind myself to take them in ordinary times. It’s so easy to get trapped into thinking you’ve got to do everything at once. Love the fabric. Hooray for Seasalt!

Small steps indeed and, I too, find them hard at the best of times. I’m still not good at small steps! xx

Small steps indeed. I find it increasingly difficult to concentrate on anything for long at the moment. Reading which is my great pleasure is very slow! And I am way behind on the blogs I visit. Supermarket beckons. I don’t fancy queuing in the rain!

I’ve found it helpful to listen to a book at read it at the same time. Helps to keep me stay focused–which is otherwise very difficult these days.

That’s an interesting technique. I might try that. 🙂

I’m finding it hard to concentrate too. I had thought I would be able to catch up on reading but, no, that’s not working. I am enjoying the sewing as I can do a bit at a time. I’m behind on blog reading and commenting too. Spending a little while now trying to catch up. 🙂

Grandmother is a wise woman 🙂 Little steps is the way forward – that’s how I got through the first few weeks of lockdown.

Small steps, yes. As a friend said, this advice fits many circumstances, grief being one – and it is a kind of grief we are all feeling now. All the best to you. Stay safe. 🙂
