La Fête du Muguet, Happiness and Pooh’s Wisdom

01 May

Our Dearest friend, Kath, for whom this blog is written and who died far too early, had, with her husband, a house in Meysaac, France. Following the rather lovely French tradition, explained below, she used to give me a little bunch of Lily of the Valley each year on May 1st or, if we weren’t together, she would send a card. In her memory, several years ago, I  planted Lily of the Valley in the wall garden at the back. This is the first year they have produced more than a few blooms.

Lily of the Valley

According to French tradition, give those you love a little bouquet of Lily-of-the-Valley (Muguet), to wish them happiness and good luck in celebration of the arrival of spring because on May 1st, 1561, King Charles IX of France received a lily of the valley (or Muguets in French) as a lucky charm, and thereafter decided to offer one each year to the ladies of the court.  Dear Readers, please accept this little flower in the spirit of La Fête du Muguet.

Action for Happiness have issued their calendar for May. Here, I share it with you.

Winnie the Pooh always gets it right!

Can’t argue with Pooh! And I love the idea of the lily of the valley. I have recently planted some so hope they grow and produce flowers eventually.
