Six on Saturday – End of March

30 Mar

We have had the loveliest week, bright sunshine in cerulean skies, warm in the sunshine but almost bitter in the shade. There was quite a frost on Thursday morning but the winds of last week have dropped and being outside has been a pleasure.

1.  It’s good to see our first Ladybird.

2.  The Fritillaria in the small walled garden near the kitchen are the best they have ever been.

3.  We love Welly Dog who is revelling in the sunshine here. To be quite honest, he smiles whatever the weather! The Tulips are enjoying the sunshine too.

4.  I have planted some instant colour into the Suffragette Garden and am pleased with the result. They should go on flowering for a good time while we settle on the whole replanting scheme.

5.    There are lots of buds on the Clematis Montana. These are by the shed and are the nearest to flowering. They have a lovely scent too and are near one of our sitting areas where we can appreciate the perfumed air.

6.  The Camassia are opening and should be quite stunning when they are all in flower. They are such a lovely colour and I love the streak of blue which runs up the petals.

Your suffragette garden is coming along well. It’s such a great idea and I bet you really enjoy thinking of seasonal plants to extend the colour scheme throughout the year.

Ooh exciting I have a couple of montanas. No sign of any buds yet, the leaves are not long out. I bought both small last year so this year will be the first flowers if i get any.

They are so pretty – I love them. We have three, all in need of pruning well this year. 🙂

Sally, I need to change my Cornwall visit, as I have sad news as my mum passed away this morning. I will be in Germany for a while now. We will do the visit another time.

The Suffragette Garden is looking good! I want to add Fritillary and Camassias for next year. Everything seems to be happening at once now and I wonder what will be left in the gardens by June!

Indeed! So do we. I noticed that the buds on the Aquilegea are about to open and that’s far too early. All a bit worrying really. Another lovely day….. 🙂

Beautiful photo of the inside of the fritillaria. They’re such interesting bulbs, but do not grow happily in my garden. Also the clematis Montana, which is going to be stunning very soon.

I love your purple sage. After two attempts I’ve given up. The Fritillaria Meleagris is beautiful! How long do the flowers last?

I took the first photos of the Fritillaria on 17th March so they last pretty well. I reckon they have another couple of weeks in them as there are still unopened buds…… 🙂
