I always enjoy going to Porthtowan’s Eco Park both for the Singing for Your Heart and Soul and for the grounds. Today I found another quirky planter made of old tyres.
Beautiful planter
This afternoon, it being stormy and wet again, I decided to bake and made a Hummingbird Cake. I found it in one of my SIL’s cookery books while we were in Atlanta in September. It sounds delicious, contains bananas and pineapple, vanilla and cinnamon so we will see when it is sandwiched and iced with a cream cheese icing.

My last choice for the Book Challenge is Lonesome Dove, a 1985 Western by Texan author Larry McMurtry. It was reading this that made me want to visit Montana but we haven’t made it yet.
I loved a Western!
The story focuses on the relationship between several retired Texas Rangers and their adventures driving a cattle herd from Texas to Montana. The novel explores themes of old age, death, unrequited love and friendship and is unputdownable! I think it has been made into a film but I don’t like to see films of books I have read as they rarely match up to the film I had in my head when I was reading!

I’ve seen the film version of Lonesome Dove several times. We own a copy. I haven’t read the book, so can’t compare it. But the film is wonderful! Love the planter!

…. Forgotten Life: Brian Aldiss.
This is such a quirky and somewhat odd book and completely off my radar of usual fare, and not the type of thing Aldiss was well known for either. However, because of this, it has a place on my bookshelf of read again and again novels.
I won’t spoil it by even offering a single hint! (unless you have read it , of course! )

I read a lot of Brian Aldiss many years ago and cannot remember if this was one of them. Another for me to track down and try. Thank you for all your suggestions – fun to find out what others like to read. 🙂

The cake sounds awesome. Might there be a recipe somewhere – ( he asks cheekily)?
I have never read a Western. Though I have enjoyed a few on the box it is not a literary genre that has ever appealed.
I am trying to think of a final book offering from this side … let me go look at my bookshelf and see if there’s anything I think you might like … back in a few moments.
