The Daily Mile, The Flying Scotsman and Treasures

06 Oct

We were waiting to see The Flying Scotsman going by outside our local Infant School when I noticed this plaque and the track. Brilliant stuff!

The Daily Mile

This is the first time that The Flying Scotsman has come into Cornwall and people turned out all along the track, despite the wind and the rain, to catch a glimpse. Click on any photo for a bigger version and the captions.

After seeing the train go by, I went to our Monthly Market where I found some real treasures, listened to a local choir The Red River Singers (and joined in!) and learned a song from Zimbabwe with a local music teacher and therapist.

I remember seeing the Flying Scotsman pass by near Retford where I lived as a young child. Always waved to the driver! I didn’t know it had come to Cornwall.

We used to wave to drivers too and they almost always waved back. Lovely memories. 🙂

Didn’t she look amazing!!! And the wonderful smell of the smoke 😄 Memories of visits to my grandparents in Cheshire and holidays in Sheringham and the Isle of Wight before my dad got a car…. We took the 9.34 from Penryn to Truro and waited on the platform until the Scotsman puffed through at 10.30.. A real treat.. xx

Brilliant! Sadly, the wind was in the wrong direction for us so we didn’t get the smell or the smuts – which I remember so well from standing on Black Bridge in Truro as a little girl. I absolutely loved it when the train went underneath and I was enveloped in the steam and the smoke! Lovely memories for us all. 🙂
