Serenity, Day Lily and Violas

05 Jul

Just beyond the car park where I park to sing on Thursday mornings, is a garden where this statue stands, speaking to me of Serenity.

Our white garden is fading and blues and oranges are taking over that patch.

Day Lily

The veg trough is full! We need to eat more salads and I need to bake more cakes so that I can decorate both with Violas.

They look pretty, but I’m not sure they look “delicious.”
Do you enjoy the taste and texture of edible flowers?

Actually, I don’t notice them in food! They look beautiful but have little taste and the texture goes unnoticed unlike Nasturtium flowers which in salads are supposed to have a slightly peppery taste. I use them on cakes too where I haven’t really noticed the taste! 🙂

Thanks, Sally. I’ve had them served to me on occasion and found them pretty but bland ~ not unpleasant but not enticing.

I wonder whether they are a nutrition powerhouse?

That’s an interesting thought. I shall investigate. 🙂

“Most edible flowers supply vitamin C, a nutrient that helps stave off infections; violas contain a good dose of potassium, Nasturtiums are another flower source of vitamin C, and contain 10 times more vitamin C than lettuce, according to the “Vineyard Gazette.” Nasturtiums also supply small amounts of vitamin D.”
Well, fancy that! Thank you for asking as I have learned something new and pleasing. I found the info here – https://www.livestrong.com/article/385150-nutritional-value-of-edible-flowers/
            🙂
