Humanist Wedding, Phillip Pullman and Blooms

26 May

It was overcast but the rain held off for the very beautiful Humanist Wedding held in the grounds of the Meudon Hotel, Falmouth.  The couple were very happy, of course, and the whole event full of love and joy.

Under the confetti arch

They chose some very interesting readings – this extract from The Amber Spyglass by Phillip Pullman was particularly moving.

“I will love you forever; whatever happens. Till I die and after I die, and when I find my way out of the land of the dead, I’ll drift about forever, all my atoms, till I find you again… I’ll be looking for you, every moment, every single moment. And when we do find each other again, we’ll cling together so tight that nothing and no one’ll ever tear us apart. Every atom of me and every atom of you… We’ll live in birds and flowers and dragonflies and pine trees and in clouds and in those little specks of light you see floating in sunbeams… And when they use our atoms to make new lives, they won’t just be able to take one, they’ll have to take two, one of you and one of me.”

The gardens at The Meudon are glorious. We must visit again very soon.

I do love being the Celebrant at such happy occasions.

It was a joy to me and I am delighted that it pleased you so much. It was lovely to meet you both, albeit briefly. I loved that we had the same taste in gorgeous clothes! 🙂

I am delighted that you found the Ceremony full of love and meaning, just as it should be. I love doing these Ceremonies, each one unique to the couple involved and I feel so privileged to be a part of their day. 🙂

Thank you for this. I admire Philip Pullman so much. His endeavours to preserve libraries, his challenging of the impoverished way we teach our children to read and write, his writing…..and how can I have missed this gem from Amber Spyglass. Is it Will to Lyra, Lyra to Will I wonder. Or Roger. So very long since I read the trilogy to my children. Your blogs comfort, inspire and delight. Thank you so much x

Such a lovely comment – thank you, one to treasure. I’ve decided to re-read the trilogy, inspired by this quotation, just as soon as I finish The Last Tudor by Philippa Gregory which I am loving. 🙂

The reading they chose is the epitome of my view of God of energy and what becomes of us after we die in the forms we are in. Absolutely beautiful and they were so blessed to have you to guide this loving ceremony. Thank you for sharing about it.

I am so lucky to have the chance to conduct Wedding Ceremonies. I love meeting the couple, helping them put their ceremony together and then sharing their day of love and joy. 🙂💕

I think if I knew then what I know today I would have opted for such a wedding.
And maybe you could have officiated? How cool would that have been!

That would have been very cool indeed! We wish we had had such a wedding but 50 years ago, I don’t think it was an option. 🙂

He was very well behaved! Went off covered in confetti but I couldn’t catch a picture! That’s a Humanist wedding for you – almost anything goes. 🙂
