A Day in Guimaraes ……

11 Oct

…. A UNESCO World Heritage site. Porto’s train  station is glorious, covered in tiles which tell of the local history. A train ride took us to the pretty site of the castle and the palace, through narrow streets and up challenging hills. Join us on our walk.

This is my favourite of all the tiles.

We were on part of a Pilgrims’ Way.

All looks wonderful Sally!.. Mike and I enjoyed our stay on Saturday night at the Opohotel near Porto airport, before driving to Rosie in the mountains. She’s been a little tense as wildfires have returned to the area, but all is calming. So lovely to be with her and Lowarn and Solomon. Lots of happy times.. Have a wonderful rest of your holiday.. Love, Anne xx

I’m glad you two too arrived safely and are now with your family. I’m happy to hear that the wild fires are calming. Enjoy the warmth of the sun and the warmth of being with loved ones. xx

Have you discovered why tiles are so popular with the Portuguese? Not surprisingly, Brazil is the same, but no one seems to know why, or where it all came from.
