Our Cornflowers are attracting lots of pollinating insects, last week a stripy Hoverfly and today a beautiful Red Tailed Bumblebee.
I love the corkscrew way the Clematis tendrils are curling around the purple flowers here.

Twin cardigans with buttons from the expected babies’ Great Great Grandfather
My Father’s Father, my Grandfather, was a button salesman and I still have cards of his buttons which I have inherited and treasured. I have sewn some of them onto these tiny cardigans which pleases me greatly.

The blue of Borage flowers is gorgeous and really enhances a salad.

It was a wonderful morning with the choir, The Suitcase Singers and friends. We sang some beautiful ‘feel better’ songs, one of them a beauty by Helen Yeoman which she wrote in response to an atrocity by the Taliban in 2009. We need to feel the love and spread the love. The harmonies created are almost overwhelming.
It was Claire’s birthday so I had made her a delicious cake, Chocolate, Almond and Date Cake ( a new sugar free recipe apart from the chocolate drops that I added!)
One of Claire’s daughters was with us today having just returned from a month long school trip to Uganda where her school firm links with local schools. Before Saffron went, she and all the other pupils first fund raised both for the cost of the trip and to support the schools that they visit and each pupil collected a suitcase of donations, baby clothes, art materials, school supplies and games equipment. Among the things that we sent was one of my knitted baby hats and today Saffron gave me photos of the baby to whom it has been given. You can imagine my delight and the tears of joy!

The Cherry On Top this week was going for a walk after the rain finally stopped and finding some beautiful raindrops caught in webs and on leaves. We have lots of Cornflowers in bloom. I caught one with an unusual Bee on it. This afternoon I went to visit Sue at her allotment. Her Sunflowers are very lovely and this evening we walked to Wheal Coates watching the activity in the sky, hang gliders and Kestrels! Click on any photo in the gallery for more detail. The feathers on the Kestrels are just amazing!
The rain stopped and we went out round the back along a short section of The Flat Lode Trail. The Buddleia is now blooming though we didn’t see any butterflies which is quite unusual as it has the nickname Butterfly Bush. The Gorse and the Heather are in bright bloom too.
From the top of the hill we could see Carn Brea castle in the distance and realised that we could see sky right through the window!
On the metal plate of a gate, the lovely Mr S spotted some tiny snails, barely 2 cms across. You can see that they are hardly the size of the rust spots.
As I drew the curtains back this morning, the sight of our neighbour’s Rose of Sharon looked as if the sun were rising over the wall and I thought of a favourite love poem, John Donne’s The Sunne Rising, which you will find under the photo of the bright golden sunshiny flowers.

The Day Lilies are very lovely, a new one every day.
There are terrible acts of violence happening all over the world and today it has all come a little nearer to home as we have family in Munich. We have heard that most of them are safe and await news of the others. (Just heard that they are safe too.) My heart hurts every time we hear of such attacks and hear the news from war torn areas and of the plight of the refugees. We need more love in our world. I try to be the kind of person who spreads love. Take care, all my dear Readers.
