Poppy, Goldfinches and Jane Kenyon

01 Jun

Our first Poppy suddenly bloomed overnight. It didn’t look that ready two days ago. There are at least eight more buds, some showing pink and some white. I do hope some of them turn out to be red.DSCN1599

We think the Goldfinches may have babies as they are constantly collecting sunflower hearts.DSCN1604

I like this poem, ‘Otherwise’  by Jane Kenyon which I only came across recently. I think it sums up being grateful for what we have each day as tomorrow may well bring something ‘otherwise’. It is certainly one to ponder.

I got out of bed
on two strong legs.
It might have been
otherwise. I ate
cereal, sweet
milk, ripe, flawless
peach. It might
have been otherwise.
I took the dog uphill
to the birch wood.
All morning I did
the work I love.

At noon I lay down
with my mate. It might
have been otherwise.
We ate dinner together
at a table with silver
candlesticks. It might
have been otherwise.
I slept in a bed
in a room with paintings
on the walls, and
planned another day
just like this day.
But one day, I know,
it will be otherwise.

Amazing Poppy pictures – I’ve never seen one emerge before like that and of course love those little birdies. The poem does a great job of verbalizing the mental gratitude list I have that includes mostly “little things.” Thank you for the yet another lovely post!

We bloggers have to take care of each other and I’m honored to be of service! 🙂 Your blog is one of the bright spots on what can be a very dark landscape.

Thank you again. I am very happy to be able to add some brightness to dark landscapes. I’ve had some of them myself and been helped through so am glad to do my bit. 🙂
Do you still blog? I’ve tried to get through a number of times and am told that your blog is no longer accessible.

Fabulous! Goldfinches are such fun but they don’t hang around for long.

You are right, they are very skittish.I was glad they were so engrossed in their seed collection so that I could get a photo! 🙂

Love the poppies, Sally, and the poem is great. The otherwise is what we all dread so must make the most of it. XX

Yes, we must. We just cannot see around the next corner. Enjoy the beauty while we may. xx
