Shoreline, Birthday and Blow The Wind Southerly

10 Apr

Another whole day with all the beautiful people involved in Shoreline, learning new pieces, watching more dances and coming together as a community, even as a production team! We were just too busy and involved for me to get any photos but see yesterday’s post for a flavour of the weekend. I found these beautiful primroses in the grounds of Tremough yesterday. Today there was too much of a hoolie to venture outside. I contributed to the cake-break today with a Date and Oat Slice, gluten-free.

It is Littlest Live-wire’s 3rd birthday today and we have sent her a beautiful central light lampshade designed by Kaitlyn of Cornish bird in the sticks and it is now hanging in B’s bedroom. It was Kaitlyn who did our family portrait. Click here to see our lovely family!

Today’s poem is song lyrics, ‘Blow the Wind Southerly’. Sung by Kathleen Ferrier, this was the soundtrack for one of today’s dances, dances which were so very moving and powerful. I grew up with this song as it was my Mum’s all time favourite and while I didn’t appreciate it as a child, today, all that love came back to me and added to the emotion of the dance.  I’ve given you the link if you would like to listen. It really is a very beautiful love song of deep longing that was conveyed so beautifully by the dancers this morning.

Blow the wind southerly, southerly, southerly,
Blow the wind south o’er the bonny blue sea;
Blow the wind southerly, southerly, southerly,
Blow bonnie breeze, my lover to me.

They told me last night there were ships in the offing,
And I hurried down to the deep rolling sea;
But my eye could not see it wherever might be it,
The barque that is bearing my lover to me.

Blow the wind southerly, southerly, southerly,
Blow bonnie breeze o’er the bonny blue sea;
Blow the wind southerly, southerly, southerly,
Blow bonnie breeze, and bring him to me.

Oh, is it not sweet to hear the breeze singing,
As lightly it comes o’er the deep rolling sea?
But sweeter and dearer by far when ’tis bringing,
The barque of my true love in safety to me.
