Hare, Stained Glass and Spike Milligan

08 Apr

One of our Daughters, knowing how I love Hares, gave me a delightfully designed tea-towel on Mother’s Day. I didn’t want it to spend most of its time in a drawer and remembered that my Mum used to make herself an apron if she found a tea-towel that she liked. Today I did just that and am very pleased with the result.

What a beautiful window this is in one of the self-catering cottages at Trengove Farm.

I have been part of a poetry exchange recently and this one came my way today. What a zany sense of humour Spike Milligan had!

On the Ning Nang Nong
Where the Cows go Bong!
and the monkeys all say BOO!
There’s a Nong Nang Ning
Where the trees go Ping!
And the tea pots jibber jabber joo.
On the Nong Ning Nang
All the mice go Clang
And you just can’t catch ’em when they do!
So it’s Ning Nang Nong
Cows go Bong!
Nong Nang Ning
Trees go ping
Nong Ning Nang
The mice go Clang
What a noisy place to belong
is the Ning Nang Ning Nang Nong!!
Spike Milligan

This was another favourite of our children:

Today I saw a little worm
Wriggling on his belly.
Perhaps he’d like to come inside
And see what’s on the Telly.

Sally, are strangers allowed? Finally I have reached your blog. I love the idea of making an apron from a tea towel. The little worm wriggling on his belly is new to me and it made me giggle.

I love what you’ve done with the tea towel! I have a coffee cup with that very hare on it ~ I bought it in a little shop in Kennebunk, Maine.

The poetry made me grin. Thanks.

I love that you bought your hare in Kennebunkport! We visited there on our road trip through New England in 2011 and loved it. We loved the whole trip in fact. 🙂
