View-Master, Knitting and Drug of Choice

13 May

1   My sorting continues – I think it will last a lifetime! Today I came across my View-Master, a toy I had when I was nine or ten. It is a three dimensional viewer into which you add discs with tiny pictures. You click the handle and a scene comes into view.  I’m thinking these had something to do with my love of/interest in Italy, The Pyramids, Japan  and lots of  other ‘exotic’ places. There is one of Cornwall too but I was living in Cornwall at the time though we didn’t have a car so many of these places were as unknown to me as Italy or Japan!

Some of the discs, some came with information leaflets

2   I made a pair of Sally-boots for a special baby due soon and today I heard that he has arrived safely. I shall post these tomorrow.

Great memories. Dad had a view master and we loved looking at the slides. When Abi was young I managed to get her one (albeit a barbie one!!!). Dad gave her some of his slides. Hopefully Mum still has the others safe 🙂

So glad you enjoyed the slides too. I didn’t know they were still available. I shall have to look in the shops. 🙂

Always thought the Kodak disk camera would be a natural for the Viewmaster, but it never happened … I needed a truck to move my books recently. I wish I still had the Squirrel Mittens my mother knitted for me as a child. I used to help her untangle skeins of wool, I swear it’s why I enjoy wiring and cabling data centers !

Oh wow, a view master! I remember ‘traveling’ through my view master to places like Victoria Falls and, yep, the great pyramids, but what I loved most about my view master was the dinosaur and cartoon reels. 😀
