Derry Temple, KniTZTanzania and Quinoa Salad

22 Mar

1   A most beautiful thing has been happening in Derry, Northern Ireland. A wonderfully intricate 75′ timber Temple has been created  by the renowned American artist, David Best, whose creations are set alight during Nevada’s annual Burning Man festival.    The remarkable structure was made by Catholics and Protestants working together in peace to honour those who died in the Troubles and was set alight last night.
Do watch the remarkably moving video. I promise you, the time will be worth it.  Please, let me know what you think. It moved me to tears.

2   Sometime ago a friend sent me a pattern for a tiny jumper for a new-born and a Beanie hat to match. The charity who were collecting to send these where they were needed has closed but I have found another, KnitzTanzania who replied to me yesterday to say a consignment is just about to leave so if I post tomorrow my little outfits tomorrow, they will go to help save the lives of new-borns in Tanzania where Hypothermia can seriously damage the health of premature and newborn babies in the Tanzanian Highlands.  If any of you would like to join me I can post the pattern  in my Recipe pages! They are very easy and quick to knit.  I made the multi-coloured one with the present of some wool from Larissa when I was recuperating.

3   I was reminded  about quinoa by Marilyn the other day and decided to make us a delicious salad for lunch today.  I served it with a delicious honey, mustard and soy dressing.

I love this intricate detail from the Temple. Namaste, my dear Readers.

I would be glad to knit a jumper or 2 or 3 for African babies. Please post the pattern you use somewhere and give us a link to get to it. Thank you, Julie in San Diego

Hello, I have made a new page called Creative Projects and there you will find the pattern for the baby outfits. You will find the page in the top horizontal menu. Thank you for suggesting I do this. I’ve put some other projects on the page too. 🙂

A very interesting video. I’m glad you shared it. And I love the idea of knitting for newborns. Those sets are perfect.

I’m glad you found the video interesting. It is very satisfying to make the little sets for the new-born babies in Tanzania. It’s a quick and easy pattern. Thank you for calling in and commenting 🙂

The Derry temple video really moved me, hopefully the project will have a lasting positive impact on the local community. such beautiful work, a shamed in a way to see it burnt but worthwhile if peace comes out of the ashes.
The outfits are gorgeous, it so satisfying to craft for others in need. Sharon x

I found it extremely moving. To what extend, I wonder, is it a kind of parable of life which is built and so filled with beauty, hard work and artistic endeavour only to crumble and burn up in to nothing. Has the joy and the sadness one feels got something to do with the beauty and absurdity we sometimes feel about life itself. Just thinking. Beautiful, Sally.
