1 I love bookshops!
2 I came across another quotation the other day and loved it too:

I was an avid reader as a child and read so quickly my parents sometimes quizzed me to see if I really had read the whole book! I had the kind of memory that if I wanted to check a fact, I could picture whereabouts in the book and whereabouts on the page that piece of information could be found. I read everything available in the Children’s library and had to get special permission to get books from the adult library and there I discovered Dorothy L Sayers’ thrillers, Emma Orczy’s Scarlet Pimpernel and Alexander Dumas’ The Three Musketeers! If only I could read as fast now – my pile of ‘to-reads’ is getting higher and higher. I wonder if you, dear reader, also have piles to go before you sleep!
3 Watching Daughter No 3 read to her daughter, Grandbaby B, on Skype, reminds me of my Dad reading to me, us reading to our four and the joy of story. I give you again, my special bookshelf of all the books for children (and some for adults) that my lovely Dad, David Wiseman, wrote, a legacy indeed.
I shall have to take a better photo tomorrow so that you can read all the titles.

I live in Robert Frost country. My house is insulated with books, thank goodness, as we won’t be getting out to the Library this week! They rely on me to read the new books and make a report. There are quite a few that I don’t read beyond the first chapter.

A pile of books, no. A pile of unseen days, in unseen places, experienced with unfamiliar faces, yes that list is infinite. Just not a big book reader, as reflected in my writing skills, that is not to say I don’t read volumes from other artsy shtufffs.
My reading list now, consists of a couple books of people I know. If I read at all, it is more often then not written in the late twenties up to, or there about, the year I was born. Now I have the rest of my life to poke around with whatever I stumble upon. That written after I was born, in a way I’ve lived that.

My biggest pet peeve with my husband was his trying to rush me in the library. lol I don’t read so much anymore. Get sad even thinking about it. I wish I could say I was well read. I will just have to be satisfied with knowing someone who is. 🙂

I agree on moving on to the next one if it doesn’t appeal. I often felt obliged to finish a book even though I wasn’t enjoying it. Not any more. Do I detect a touch of Robert Frost in your phrase, “also have piles to go before you sleep!”

I feel exactly the same about books and reading to children. Your dad wrote some super books …I’ve enjoyed them all!
Like you, if a book doesn’t appeal after a couple of chapters I just don’t read any more.xx

I know! I used to make myself finish any book I started but now I don’t. If it doesn’t appeal quite quickly, I move on to the next one! 🙂

Stories, the love of reading, surpass generations doesn’t it? I love reading, and your father must have been one brilliant man to have written all those tombs! I love those quotes, books are one massive part of my life – I’ll never give reading up.
