Sailing Lesson, Falmouth and Rescue

06 May

1    We had our first sailing lesson today, Day 1 of a two day RYA course. We have had an amazing time and are both completely exhausted, learning so much about the boat, about the sails, about the winds and the tides and the rules of the water and being out on the water, actually doing the sailing, for about 4 hours.  The photos are together in a gallery below.  I couldn’t take many as I was working so hard!  Our Instructor was brilliant, full of information and encouragement and an excellent teacher. Click on any photo for detail.

2  Sailing in the waters around Falmouth and seeing the land from the sea is so lovely – and given that I was so frightened a week ago, I felt no fear at all, only exhilaration again!

2   Part way through our afternoon session, our instructor noticed someone in trouble waving and shouting. Following the excellent code of the  water where you always help anyone needing help we went to see what we could do. There were two young women in a dinghy and their engine had failed so given the strong tide and the off-shore wind, they were being taken further and further out to sea. We towed them into the quayside  and carried on with our lesson.  They were very grateful!

I shall certainly sleep well tomorrow – maybe most of the day before we go off to Indian Queens to sort out my battery. 🙂

Looks like it was a beautiful day to be on the water even though you had a scary experience.
