1. The cottage that L&T have moved into is an old railway cottage with all the original features from 1850 including this beautifully engineered latch on the door to the stairs.
2 Some trees are having to be felled nearby after the wild storms so that they don’t interfere with power lines. This is the very top of a Leylandii which is not normally seen as it is so high in the sky!
3. Shopping this afternoon, we saw this beautiful little carved owl. I am a big fan of owls and fell in love with this one. Last night we could hear owls in the woods.

When I was a wee Howl, I collected eggs for our neighbour on the times when they went away. The latch going into the coop was exactly like this, there was another on the door going into the grain shed. I will always remember that latch and have not seen one since. To me, it was a working sculpture -Objet_d’art. Exposing the inner workings of anything just appeals to me; as a child till now. You showing it here, explains why I likely never seen another. The latches were probably stashed in a trunk when someone immigrant from England on a sailing vessel as was the case. I know the barn was built in 1899, as the date was carved into the main beam. That barn replaced another barn which was first erected as a house for an early settler then turned over to livestock when the big brick house was built. The hinges were probably on the original home/barn. Thanks for this, it was pleasant surprise.
I am an owl fan as well. Sadly I have taken a couple dead owls out of spruce trees on my property. It seems they met their end breaking their neck while crashing into the limbs attempting to getting roosting doves who use the thick spruce to weather through the night. On the odd night, I can see them flying through the yard on the hunt. I seldom hear them as you did.

I love the owl. I notice the wooden waders in the background too. I have quite a collection of them in our garden room. We hear owls every evening in our garden and they go on all through the hours of darkness. Good job we like them! When the Little Owls return from migration we shall have them yapping away too.
