Winter Walk Around Trelissick Gardens, Cook Books and A Gig

19 Jan

1   We thought of driving up to England to see the snow but decided instead to walk around Trelissick Gardens. The gallery which follows takes you on our walk. Click on any image to get a full screen photo.

2   I’ve been looking at my collection of Ambrose Heath cook books inherited from my Mum and with recipes that we still use. (See the Rhubarb one on my Recipe pages)  Some of the books are illustrated with delightfully quirky Edward Borden woodcuts.

3   We’re off out tonight to a gig by The Old Tire Swingers. We’re told they are “another great bluegress act all the way from the U S of A Influenced by the Appalachian string bands as well as their own Central California country roots, they play a style that’s somewhere between old time, bluegrass, and country.”

Remarkable isn’t it? And the rest of the country is covered in snow! 🙂

Cornwall has a subtropical climate and I always enjoyed it there, even though I enjoy the snow.

Parts of Cornwall, yes, around the Fal and around Penzance but not where we live in Redruth! 🙂

A very favourite place on my eoy visits, and always walk that walk. Lovely to see all the flowers and KHF. We are anticipating 11 degrees below zero F next week.

I suppose that’s the difference being, I guess, 700-800 miles further South than you, though I have to say I was surprised to see them already. 🙂

Thank you for visiting and taking the time to comment. I’ll be visiting you tomorrow! 🙂

Did Cornwall manage to avoid the snow? I love old cookbooks. It’s so interesting to read how people cooked in previous generations, particularly late 1800’s and early 1900’s.

Envious. It’s way too hot here.

What stunning photos my friend though the traditional status caught me off guard 🙂

Love the sound of a mix of blue grass and country – I’d be there like a shot!

Lovely photos. What do you mean “driving up to England”? I thought you were in Cornwall which is in England!!

Not to the Cornish it isn’t! Crossing the Tamar is a big deal. Some older Cornish people have never been ‘up t’England’
I’m not Cornish, though I grew up here, but I like the thought that Cornwall is a place apart, like Wales or Scotland.

Thanks, lodgehousebandbsomerset, for asking the question that was on my mind. Sally, you Cornish are like New York City folks who think of the city (and all the boroughs) as a state in themselves, LOL.

There is a strong group that would love independence for Cornwall. I’m much more realistic! 🙂

Enjoy your night out, it sounds like it will be terrific. I love all of the photos and my favourite I think is the rhododendrons. It looks like you had a lovely walk round the gardens.
