Surprise Present, ClothKitty and Books on Stairs

06 Jan

1   Our lovely neighbour came in today and brought me a belated birthday present of some of her beautiful Winter Flowering Cherry blossom (which I have been admiring from our back bedroom window) a real tonic! Thank you, Sue.

2   I love ClothKitty! I made her at least 30 years ago for KJ but can’t remember exactly when.

3   Our eldest daughter has sent us this delightful photograph of someone’s stair/bookcase. Now we have an  extended family project for us all to nominate the 9 books we would paint our stairs with!  ‘Under Milk Wood’ would be there for me (as for my older brother) but I’ll have to think of the others.   I wonder what your choice might be?  I’d love to know!

I have seen that stairs of books before, on Facebook I think and I saved the photo as I LOVE it! One day I may paint my stairs with all of my favourite books! Karen

We have the plan too. Let’s hope it comes to the doing. What would your favourite books be? Any overlap with any of mine or another list to set me off with new reads? 🙂

I LOVE the staircase! And I also really love your daughter’s friend’s choice of books, several of them would make my staircase as well. Also Love in the Time of Cholera, The Fountainhead, Carl Sagan’s Billions and Billions…and wow, it would be difficult to narrow it down.

Also, what beautiful cherry blossoms! How fortunate are you!

My eldest daughter sent me the photo and now the whole family are sharing their book lists as well as some people on here and on my Facebook page too which is lovely.
It is so hard to choose only 9 or 10 books! As one friend said she needs a lighthouse!
I’ve just been browsing our shelves for my 10 which I’m going to post for today. 🙂

LOL! A lighthouse! I was thinking the same thing.

This would be incredible at a library as well!

Wouldn’t it – but how would they ever choose the titles? Perhaps ask each borrower to nominate one! Lovely idea. 🙂

I totally love that stair case! I love it so much, when (being positive here…) I buy a house from lotto wins (!!) or book published royalties (!!!!!!!) I would do same with my stairs – so very effective, awesome.

And the cherry blossom: so delicately pink.

Happy birthday! I had no idea! V. sorry … belated, from Australia 🙂

I love the colors in the Cherry Blossom photo. The stairway is so fascinating. I envy people who can really decorate their homes that say something about themselves. Oh, I have the usual knickknacks, but they really aren’t me. Just dust catchers. 🙁

It was so delicate wasn’t it? I tried the blossom in all sorts of places and liked the softness of the pale wall rather than a dark background. Really glad you like it.

Have you an address for me to go to to read your new blog? You know only I’ll see it here! 🙂

Love cloth kitty… how wonderful to still have her… oh wow – the stairs… I’d need a very tall house and lots of stairs… maybe a lighthouse!
But yes, far from the Madding Crowd and Lark Rise at Candleford would be a good start… and Middlemarch and MansfieldPark…The Pursuit of Love… Oh you’ve set me off!!!!
Little Women goes without saying of course!

I would have Flora Thompson’s “Lark Rise to Candleford”, Terry Pratchett’s Discworld series, Thomas Hardy (Far from the Madding Crowd), as well as Jane.
