1 This lovely little model of a Mandarin Duck was made by our youngest daughter many, many years ago for her Dad. It has been treasured ever since.
2 I have finished the tiny cardigan for our Grand-baby due in April. It has some very special buttons on it.
Tiny cardigan, 20 cms from top to bottom
3 These buttons are part of a collection that I have inherited. My Grandfather was a button salesman in and around Manchester and these are his sample cards which have been used gradually over the years. It really pleases me to think that the new baby will be wearing a cardigan with buttons belonging to her/his Great Great Grandfather!

All “precious”. And the buttons remind me of the “Pearly King” and a little button store here in Toronto… But I am stuck on your previous thought-provoker about what to save in a disaster. I often think of my desktop, where I’ve installed most of my old but digitized photos. It’s a nightmare to think of what I’d lose – as family ‘archivist’ with ancient photos, papers, etc… I used to think that memories would be enough, but hey, even that’s going! 🙂

I’m also the Family Archivist! Now that I stop to think more, there are probably papers etc that I should save as well but in the scenario presented, there was very little time!
I’m thinking I need a metal box into which I should put all those papers – like my Mum and Dad did but until now, I hadn’t really thought why!
Funny isn’t it that you only begin to understand some of what your parents did/went through as you get to that age/stage yourself and they are long gone …….

I have a big cookie container of buttons. I mean lots of buttons. I’m sure none are worth anything and I have no idea where I got them because I can’t and don’t sew. But somehow I can’t seem to bring myself to toss out that tin container.

I thought the Mandarin Duck was a handcrafted handbag, until I read it was a model by your daughter. The colours really are of cloth. It’s lovely. I have some old Daniel pieces, will drag out of the cupboards when he’s “old & wise” tee hee…

Ah buttons! I am a bit of a button nut – I just like buttons and it is only since I joined Blogland that I have realized a lot of other people share this like. I don’t like to wear them, just to look at them, and sometimes I buy one or two just because they catch my eye and make me smile. So our house is full of buttons in random places! The baby will be very smart in that cardi – the yarn pattern works out lovely. Yvonne x

I love buttons too and have a big old stone jar of them that my Mum collected before me and to which I am always adding when some piece of buttoned clothing becomes a duster!
I do love the wool that makes its own pattern, it makes even simple patterns look special. 🙂
