Elephants, Embroidery and ‘Always Look on the Bright Side of Life!’

14 May

1   I love elephants! I’ve loved them since I was very little and today this beautiful story came in to my inbox and reminded me of our encounter with a herd of elephants after our Voluntouring in Mapoch, South Africa. The lovely Mr S spotted them from a long way away, we found them and watched them playing in the water for about 40 minutes. It was absolutely magical.

2   This beautiful embroidery is one of three made for me by Grace, the sister of the teacher at the school in Mapoch, near Pretoria where we, with local builders, built a classroom.

3   We’ve hardly stopped laughing all evening! We’ve been to see ‘Spamalot’ at The Hall for Cornwall. The place was packed and the whole audience loved the show.

The elephant herd for the San Diego Zoo is growing by leaps and bounds. There have been four births in the past year or so, and watching the little ones grow up is a joy.

There’s no sight like a herd of Elephant at a waterhole. They simply take over and the care they express for their young, especially at waterholes, is something to see. I can understand why you love them – magnificent animals. The image of that little bird on the nest is amazing. What bird is it and do they always build their nests that big?

I agree about the elephants at the water hole. I don’t know what bird it is! I shall find out and let you know. 🙂

My pleasure. I find it quite fascinating that they so clearly understand so much and we so little. 🙂

I went to the elephant orphanage in Sri Lanka many years ago and never forgotten it. xx

They are wonderful creatures aren’t they – and to travel to mourn their human friend – incredible. I will keep sharing the smiles, my friend! 🙂

I’ve always found elephants to be alluring animals. They seem to have such personalities, distinctly unique from one another. How wonderful you were able to see them up close. I particularly love the mother and baby. Thank you for sharing. 🙂
